“We are in a good place,” says Aaron Downes on Cheltenham Town’s trip to Colchester United

Cheltenham Town Assistant manager Aaron Downes says the Robins “are in a good place,” ahead of Saturday’s League Two trip to Colchester United.

The U’s game last weekend against Fleetwood Town was cancelled due to international call-ups whilst Cheltenham were beaten 3-2 at home to Swindon Town.

However, Downes does not feel this will put his team at a disadvantage despite Colchester having the extra week off.

“You can also look at it as a negative that they would have been wanting a game because players want to play, and they would have still wanted a week rest going into the game so we are fresher.

“We are looking more at ourselves this week than worrying about their mindset as I said earlier we have to be conscious of what they do but at the same time we know it’s about us and how we apply ourselves to the match.”

Michael Flynn wasn’t able to attend the press conference today due to his car breaking down so Downes filled in for him.

Cheltenham have had a massive transition to start the season, and Flynn has done his best to steady the ship, but the fans are demanding results, with the club sitting 21st in the league.

Colchester currently sit 17th in the table, and it is a big opportunity for the Robins to pick up some vital points for the team, but they will need to play better than they have recently if they want to see a difference.
