Welsh Under-19 International Phoebie Poole is Cheltenham Ladies’ top scorer so far this season, netting eight times so far this term. Poole was delighted with the service she’s had from her teammates so far, stating:
“The girls have been absolutely amazing, and it only looks like it’s getting better, every time we play with each other on the pitch!” Poole stated.
The former Cardiff City striker will be hoping for more of the same this Sunday at Kayte Lane, as the Robinesses take on Reading in the Third Round of the Women’s FA Cup.
The Royals were relegated from the Women’s Super League last season, and currently sit in 10th in the Women’s Championship, on a winless run of six games.
“We understand what we have to do to give us a good chance. It’s a really good opportunity to play against a Championship team!
“It would mean a lot to the girls to get to Round Four, and we’ll show how much it’ll mean to us on Sunday!” Poole said.
Cheltenham had a last-gasp finish to their Second Round clash a fortnight ago, against Exeter. The Robinesses were a goal down after 87 minutes, but three late goals from Emily Owen, Emily Allen, and Poole booked their place in the Third Round.
Poole explained how crucial the Kayte Lane support is, especially given their third-highest attendance against the Grecians, with a crowd of 322.
“Hearing the supporters always makes a difference. It’s their support that pushes us, especially in games with goals in 90+ minuets. Hopefully, we can give them another exciting game of football!”
The Robinesses are currently on an unbeaten run of five games, which includes league triumphs over Billericay Town and Hashtag United. Poole emphasised how much togetherness there is between the group.
“The mood can never be dull with this group of girls! Everyone’s putting in the effort on and off the pitch, to compete with each other to get that training spot!”
Poole and the rest of the Robinesses will be looking to reach the Fourth Round for the first time ever, and kickoff is at 2 pm on Sunday December 10.
