UOG Lacrosse Women’s team dismantle BU 2’s 21-0 in their first BUCS match of the season

UOG Women’s Lacrosse started really well in their first game back in the BUCS, winning 21-0 after a wonderful first half from UOG, in which they led 16-0 after the second quarter.

It was a dominant performance all around from UOG who looked much the better side and the scoreline represented that.

The player of the match was given to Bella Carter by the opposition team BU 2s and was a big reason why the scoreline was so large.

UOG led 16-0 at halftime but decided to make changes at the break to give some of their new players first-team experience.

Second-year Gloucestershire University student and Lacrosse player Galatee St John Webb spoke after the game about the team’s performance.

“First time for us in different positions, so in our third quarter, we completely changed positions, so our attackers went into defence, and the defence went into attack to practise all over the pitch to make them a bit more complete.

“I think it gives them a bit of confidence having that game out of the way and one where there was a quite positive outcome so it will make them feel quite good and confident for the next game.

“Our goals are to win but just have a really good team spirit and team environment and share Lacrosse with UOG as we are a bit of a smaller club, and most of us have never played Lacrosse before, so we are trying to get more people to join us and try Lacrosse because it’s a good opportunity to try at university compared to anywhere else,” she continued.

“I think that the entity has gone up a little bit we are just trying to be a bit fitter in general as it is a really big pitch, and we take ourselves a lot more seriously we do have bigger goals despite winning not being everything.”

The home side suffered a big injury in the second half when Ellie Rose went down and required a stretcher to get off the pitch, but that gave the team more energy to finish off the game.

UOG has started the season off well with an excellent victory and will look to progress onwards to their next match against Marjon’s first team.
