Former Redditch United Under 18’s player, Josh Carter is optimistic about getting into the Varsity squad to take on Worcester on Wednesday March 20.
Josh Carter, 20, has been with the University of Gloucester 2nd team and has been with the squad throughout the season, and is hoping to play for the team in Varsity.
The Centre-back has been selected for the initial squad to train and try and make it to the main 18-man squad for the Varsity game.
“All I can do is do my best every training session, we’ve got a new manager now so it is my chance to impress him and get into the squad that way but there are a lot of centre-halves so everyone will be trying their best so hopefully I will just edge it.
“Not sure about starting this year, the two centre-backs in the first team have played every game together but getting in that squad, I’ve definitely got a chance of doing.
“It will be a massive achievement to be in the best 18 players at university so to be involved in a game of that stature would mean a lot to me as it would be the biggest game I’ve played in.”
Heading into the fixture, Worcester and Gloucester will meet for the first time since 2022, as there was a ban in place following a bust up in their previous meeting.
A good 28 miles separates the two clubs but rest assured both sides will be hungry for the result in Varsity.
Many people like Carter would feel Varsity is the biggest game of their lives and the 20-year-old compared his time at Redditch, playing Semi-Finals, to playing in a game of Varsity magnitude.
“I think playing for Redditch, one it’s an astro-turf and I think Worcester play on astro-turf so that’s something that people are not actually used to playing on.
“We’ve had big semi-final games in the Birmingham County Cup at Redditch United, so I think all of them things have prepared me for playing in a big game like Varsity.”
There will be further developments to come as Josh Carter hopes to make the 18-man squad in which Gloucester will take to do battle against Worcester.
