Title-chasing Cheltenham Town Ladies are set to play Bristol-based Downend Flyers in the GFA County Women’s Trophy this Saturday.
The Robins currently sit second in the FA Women’s National League, behind only Southampton Womens’, three points clear of Exeter behind them.
Meanwhile, the Downend Flyers sit fifth in the South West Women’s Regional Football League, winning just one of their six league games so far this season.
Cheltenham comes into the game as the undisputed form side, being unbeaten in their last six games, losing just twice all season.
Last time out, the Robins ran away 4-0 winners over Liskeard Athletic in the first round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
Meanwhile, Downend Flyers haven’t played in 11 days, with their last outing being a 1-1 draw with Frampton Rangers Ladies FC.
Cheltenham will be eager to progress in a competition that they may well see as a winnable one.
With the form the Robins have found this season they should be confident of progressing, however as is the nature of cup competitions, they need to be careful to ensure Downend can’t pull of what would be a great cup-set.
