Swindon Head Coach Scott Lindsey admitted that his side are lacking self-belief on the pitch, after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with AFC Wimbledon extended their winless run to five matches.
Despite dominating possession throughout, Swindon failed to create many clear-cut chances against the in-form Dons and were forced to settle with a point.
Having not won since October 29th in a dominant 5-2 win over promotion chasing Mansfield Town, Lindsey believes that his squad’s performance has been affected by their recent struggles on the pitch.
“We looked like a team who have lost the last two and you could see we were a bit bruised”, said the Swindon boss.
“You could see a lack of confidence from the squad today, which is expected with our recent dip in form.”
Swindon are currently dealing with several injury woes within the squad which restricted Lindsey’s squad selection for the tie, with key players such as Ben Gladwin, Luke Jephcott, Tom Clayton and Mathieu Baudry all side-lined.
However, the Head Coach admitted although the lengthy injury list played a part in the result, his side still had enough quality to take all three points.
“Some players who came in today have been knocking on my door asking to start, however in this instance I didn’t really have much choice in my selection as so many are injured.”
“The injuries definitely didn’t help, but I still put out a team which were capable of winning the game.”
Despite the sides recent lack of form, the League Two outfit still remain only one point outside of the playoffs.
As attention turns to Saturday’s trip to high flying Barrow, Lindsey has stressed the confidence he has in squad to turn things around.
“We can’t afford for these past few weeks to determine the rest of our campaign, we have to remain positive and bounce back.”
