Following a strong start to the season, the dynamic duo Michael Flynn and Wayne Hatswell have been offered to stay at the club until the end of 2025/26.
Town currently sit in 10th, just three points off a play-off spot. This season could go one of two way though, as Swindon are only five points ahead of Newport County who sit in 19th.
The Swindon chairman released a statement about the extensions of Flynn and Hatswell:
“We are delighted to be able to continue our journey with Michael and Wayne as they look to continue leading our team on the pitch.”
“Their commitment, hard work and the overall exciting style of play they have been insistent on bringing to the club since their arrival in the summer, makes them a perfect match for Swindon and our supporters.”
After narrowly missing out on League One promotion twice in the 2018/19 and 2020/21 play-off finals with Newport County, there’s no doubt that Flynn’s main goal for this season is to finish in the top three or play-off victors.
The chief executive, Anthony Hall also had his say on the situation:
“We want to take the club to the next level and compete with the top teams. To do that, we have to have the right management team in place and in Michael and Wayne we believe we have this.”
“We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments, generate even more connection with our fans, improve the atmosphere at the County Ground, be able to recruit top, talent and the best people for the club.”
“We believe with extending both Michael’s and Wayne’s contracts we have the right team to achieve our goals.”
“We are positive about the direction both they and we as a football club are going in with those two at the helm of the Men’s team, and we look forward to what the future holds over the next few years.”
Flynn also spoke out after the news of his contract extension:
“Today is about securing our future with the club and looking to build on the successful start we’ve made so far. While we will always take learnings from disappointing moments, we are laser-focused to live in the moment and enjoy the challenges that this journey will bring.”
“One thing is for sure – we cannot do this alone. It is the Swindon Town support that defines us as a football club and we can’t wait to work with you for a few more years to deliver the success that we know we as a football club are capable of!”
