One of the main issues of grassroots football is the rising costs a team have to pay just to maintain itself. Based on Cheltenham Civil Service club president Rob Morrison explanation, here is how much it costs to run a club in Cheltenham.
First, you have to rent a pitch to train and play a match. A pitch, as Morrison said, costs probably “£50 plus”.
Then, Morrison also gave a rough number of £200 to finance a single game, if your team would be the home team. If there are 16 teams in a league, and we follow the basic system of playing each club home and away, you would have to pay this price seven times at least.
You also must get a referee willing to regulate the game, and two assistants, which costs £32 times three plus their travelling expenses. Moreover, you would be required to wash every kit, and anything related to that. A good wash according to Morrison a good £14.
Not only that, but you would have to buy a meal for the referees and the travelling team. Also, there has to be a match programme ready, all of this adds up to the aforementioned £200.
