In the first press conference since Gareth Bale announced his retirement, Rob Page has explained how he’d love to keep him involved.
Speaking to the press, Page said: “I would love for Gareth to still be involved in some capacity. We had that conversation.”
He added: “What that role is we don’t know yet, but he just needs some time to spend with his family.”
Page went on to speak about how successful and inspiring Bale’s career has been, specifically saying that “He’s put Wales on the map globally from what he’s done at Real Madrid and Tottenham and in the rest of his career.”
A statue has been mentioned and the Wales manager was very much on board with this, “Oh of course, absolutely, he deserves all the credit he’s gonna get… You’ve gotta do something for him, he’s been such a legend and an icon for sure to children in Wales.”
Lastly, the Welshman was asked about his future Wales captain explaining, “It’ll come as no surprises when it’s eventually announced but there’s one that stands out for me and we’ve already preempted this.”
