PREVIEW: Gloucester Rugby v Leicester Tigers

Gloucester Rugby will play hosts to Leicester Tigers this Saturday at Kingsholm in a mid-table clash in the Aviva Premiership.

The home side currently sit in fourth place, six points ahead of this weekend’s opponents Leicester in eighth position.

The Cherry and Whites will be looking to improve on last week’s result against Newcastle Falcons after a 31-19 defeat in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, having won their previous fixture in the cup against Ospreys the week before.

Gloucester have a fully-fit side going into the game but fans should expect changes with Head Coach Johann Ackermann telling Gloucestershire Live:

“There are a number of positions where you can select a player and then on Saturday think maybe I should have picked someone else.

“But if you get the result, it means that your decision was the right one.”

Leicester meanwhile, also come into the game on the back of a defeat after a 50-28 defeat away to Wasps, meaning both sides will want to bounce back with victories this weekend.

Leicester Head Coach Matt O’Connor told the Leicester Mercury that Telusa Veainu, Manu Tuilagi and Gareth Owen could all return after missing previous weeks through injury.

“Telusa, Manu and Gareth are all training so that is really positive and they should feature at this stage,” O’Connor said. “That gives us options in the back-line. Most of the forwards have come through really well, too.”

However, Gloucester don’t have a great record against the Tigers, as they lost the last time the two sides faced each other back in September with a 24-10 defeat earlier on in the season.

The referee for the game will be JP Doyle who will be officiating his 145th professional game. His assistants will be Anthony Woodthorpe & Paul Dix with Claire Hodnett and Paul Hull supporting with TMO and as citing officer.

The home side do boast a 100% win record at home in the league, winning their previous five fixtures at home and will rely on this achievement to see them through to victory this weekend. Gloucester are one of only two sides left in the league who still maintain this impressive record, the other being leaders Exeter Chiefs.
