Oliver Casey signed in the summer by Ian Burchnall and now playing under Duncan Ferguson: what’s that like?

Oliver Casey signed for Forest Green Rovers in the summer of 2022 under ex-manager Ian Burchnall, and things haven’t gone well up to this point in his first season with the club. Forest green remain rock bottom and haven’t won since their 1-0 win against Cheltenham Town back on December 10th which was 13 games ago.

When asked about what it’s like under two coaches Casey stated that “Two different coaches, both have their different ways we just needed to get a good understanding and what’s expected of each other and since the gaffers come in, we’ve got a good understanding of that, a different formation but everyone’s getting used to it”.

Before Forest Green Casey lacked for game time at his previous clubs. He started off at Leeds United in 2019 and made just one appearance in the two seasons he was there for. He then went on to sign for Blackpool in 2021 and made just six appearances but, since signing for Forest Green he has been the main man at the back making 21 appearances so far this season with more to come.

Casey was speaking about how life differs under Ferguson “Yeah I think so, like I said he’s made it quite easy for us, it’s quite simple what he expects of us so it’s easy to understand”. The performances have improved since the Scotsman came in but the results aren’t showing and with little games left, they need to pick up points desperately.

It’s now been four games under Ferguson and they’ve managed to get just one point so far, against Morecambe where they conceded late to a Cole Stockton equaliser and also conceded two late goals in Ferguson’s first game which came against Shrewsbury Town in a 2-1 loss.

If Forest Green were to win soon Casey believes “we can get a run together and it’s only seven points so once you get a little run going you can quickly move up the table”. Rovers face a number of different teams and the Rovers centre back states “I think no matter who we’re playing whether that’s top of the league/bottom of the league I think we’re capable of beating them, so it’s just about getting those first three points”.

Forest Green face Ipswich Town this Saturday and will once again look to get their first win of the new year but will face lots of curbs and bumps on the way when they face the top side that is Ipswich. Rovers have nothing to lose so will push out all they can in order to gain some points away from home.
