As a new season has kicked off, there has been one team that’s stood out much more than others. Newly promoted side Gloucester Kings currently sit fourth in the Men’s National Basketball League standings, with two wins from two and another coming in the National cup. Kings beat last season’s champions Worcester Wolves 83-46 in a statement victory on Sunday.
Gloucester royalty are first timers in Division One but have no reason to believe in a title challenge.
The Kings have also enjoyed wins against Leicester Warriors, running out as 89-85 winners, whilst the cup win came against Bath, in which they depleted the away side 100-49.
Despite the Kings just coming up from Division Two, the side have replaced all but two players from last season’s success. With Rhys Farrell being one of the two gave his insight on the new team: “We have a lot of experience and talent, so there’s high hopes for this season.
“The culture and the group we have together definitely hasn’t been lost, everyone gets along.”
Farrell himself has had a good start to the season, with an 11 ppg average sees him thriving around his new teammates. The Kings forward believes, “We just have to take it week by week and chip away game by game.”
With Gloucester’s next game in the league away to also undefeated St Helen’s, they will make the lengthy trip to the third placed side in hopes of leapfrogging the Merseyside team.
