How Mohamed Eisa has flourished in first season for Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road

Mohamed Eisa has been in sublime form for the Robins in his first season at Whaddon Road, but will Gary Johnson be able to keep hold of his star striker?

That is the big question. Eisa is the Robins top scorer this season, having bagged 20 goals since his move from Isthman League outfit, Greenwich Borough. But, the big problem for Johnson and the Robins now is ensuring to keep hold of their most prized asset.

Eisa has been phenomenal, and has been in sizzling form this season. He recently won the player of the month award after scoring braces in Cheltenham wins over Crawley Town and Swindon Town on the road.

The Sudanese striker is arguably the most talented player at the club at the moment, and he could well turn out to be a huge star in the future. There is no doubt various teams further up the Football League will now be eyeing up a move for the Robins hit man.

Why has he been such a success?

The reasons why Eisa has hit the ground running at Whaddon Road is his ability to find that bit of space and hit the back of the net in an instance. He has clearly been helped by starting up at the Pro Touch Soccer academy, which is a stepping stone for players keen to make it as professional footballers.

His movement is astonishing. You can see why he has been such a big hit in the Football League, especially after bagging 57 goals in 100 games for Greenwich Borough, before making the switch to the Robins in July 2017 on a one-year deal.

Is Eisa a star in the making?

There have been various players who have made the jump up the leagues, none better than Jamie Vardy and the Cheltenham man will most certainly be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Vardy in making the step up from the Non-League, into the Premier League – and he certainly has the ability.

He was also desperately unlucky to miss out on the team of the season, and a factor in that maybe due to where the Robins are in the table. Adebayo Akinfenwa, Danny Hylton and Billy Kee all made it into the Sky Bet League Two team of the season over the 23 year-old.

But he certainly had a case, especially after helping the Robins claw their way out of the relegation battle – it now looks as though the Robins will remain in League Two. They’re currently 11 points adrift of the relegation zone with 12 points to play for between now and the end of the season.

Will the Robins keep hold of their goal machine?

They’re going to have some job on their hands. He has been a huge hit during his first season in Gloucestershire – he has also broken the record for the most goals scored in a season for the Robins. Gary Johnson will be hoping to persuade the striker to stay at Whaddon Road ahead of next season.

However, if a glamour move does come up for the Sudan-born striker, he may jump at the opportunity of moving to a bigger club up the Football League. If he does stay and Johnson improves his squad over the summer, they might have a chance of launching a League Two play-off bid next season.

He signed a contract extension August last year until 2020, after bagging four goals in his first three games for the Robins following a scintillating start to life in the Football League.
