Cinderford Town turn their attention away from Hellenic Premier League action this weekend as they prepare for an exciting second round FA Vase clash against Helston Athletic. It promises to be a welcome distraction and a chance to continue what has become the clubs best cup run in three years.

“In regards to the game Saturday it is a good distraction from the league,” said Matthew Driscoll the Cinderford manager. “Its a really really good cup, the FA Vase. The first year we were in it we didn’t get past the first qualifying round, so this is the best cup run Cinderford have been on in three years.”
Cinderford will be up against familiar opposition in Helston, a side that came down from the same division last season. “Helston are a good team, they came down last year the same time as us, so we are in the same boat. They have got everything to play for like us . We have just got to turn up.”
With recent matches allowing opportunities for rotation, Driscoll confirmed that the squad have been carefully managed ahead of the tie. “We’ve mixed the teams to give everyone a fair crack and have rested players for this game.”
In the previous round, Helston knocked out fellow Forest of Dean side Lydney Town, after they lost 4-0 to the Cornish team.
The Foresters are eager to make their mark in the competition, both for the club and the supporters. “It is something that the club needs, a good cup run. I think the boys need it as well. As long as we turn up as a collective, we will have a go at anyone.”
Reflecting on recent performances, Driscoll is keen to see an improvement. “Fairford was disappointing because there were two sloppy goals. But as we are looking forward to this one. Weather dependant, hoping the pitch holds out. I hope we have a big crowd to cheer us on. “
With a home advantage, a strong squad and plenty of motivation, Cinderford will be looking to continue their very impressive FA Vase campaign.
