Manchester United face Liverpool at Old Trafford as Jurgen Klopp’s side push for Champions League qualification continues in the Premier League tonight

Liverpool will be looking to close the gap on the top four tonight with a victory at Old Trafford, after Chelsea’s slip up against Arsenal last night gave Liverpool a glimmer of hope for Champions League football next season.

The Reds currently sit seven points behind Chelsea and nine points behind Leicester with two games in hand over both teams, with Chelsea and Leicester facing off on Tuesday.

Should Liverpool be victorious over Manchester United, it will put them in a very good position to qualify for Champions League football with their remaining games against West Brom, Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Manchester United’s side however will be well rested after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made ten changes to his side who lost 2-1 to Leicester City on Tuesday, with Mason Greenwood the only survivor from the 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Tonight’s match will mark United’s fourth game in seven days, something that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was quick to criticise in his press conference calling it “a crime”

The match was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday 2nd May but had to be postponed after fans made it into the ground and onto the pitch, protesting against United joining the “Super League” as well as to protest against club ownership.

United are now just vying for league position after qualifying for the Champions League after Everton’s victory over West Ham on Sunday. However with a fierce rivalry between the two clubs it is expected that Solskjaer will field a strong side with Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford all expected to be back in the starting eleven.

Solskjaer is winless in the Premier League against Liverpool having faced them four times whilst Klopp has been unable to produce a victory on his six visits to Old Trafford.

The sides have been involved in three draws out of their last four Premier League matches against each other, two of them being goalless.

However United are unbeaten in their last eight home games against Liverpool and have only lost one of their last 15 games against the Reds.
