The Robins left the capital with all three points with a goal from Alfie May proving to be the difference for Wade Elliott’s side.
Addicks goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray made a high-profile error, gifting May the goal as the ball landed at his feet, giving him a golden opportunity to put Cheltenham in front.
Midfielder Liam Sercombe was one of the stars of the show for the Robins, as he made his 600th career appearance at the Valley.
Sercombe, who joined the Robins in 2020, starred in the midfield alongside Guyana international Elliott Bonds, helping keep Charlton at bay in the middle of the park.
His experience showed for Cheltenham, as his playmaking ability proved to be vital for the Robins in the first half, helping to create the best chance of the half as Dan Nlundulu hit the bar after latching onto Sercombe’s through ball.
His two key passes in the game was the most completed by any other Robins player on the night, also completing a cross and three long balls.
The midfielder was also key in the defensive side of the game for Cheltenham, completing two tackles and winning two aerial duels in the middle of the park.
Sercombe almost got on the score sheet for the Robins as well, with his effort from the edge of the box requiring a good save in the first half.
The win makes it 11 points out of a possible 15 in their last five games, seeing the Robins jump all the way to 14th in the League One table.

“We never get too far ahead of ourselves. I’ve told the lads to enjoy their weekend, they’ve earned it. I told them to enjoy the feeling in the dressing room, enjoy the moment, but be back in Monday morning ready to work and work towards Forest Green,” said head coach Elliott following the game.
