Liam Bond, chairman and captain of Montpellier FC, believes his team have a competitive edge over their Division Two opposition, despite Generation Next flying high in the league above.
Bond is quietly optimistic about the game. He said: “Everyone loves an underdog story, knowing the way football is in cup games.”
Newly founded Montpellier FC are underdogs coming into their first quarter final against Generation Next, who sit second place in the league above them.
“We’re going to have to work extremely hard for each other, we’re going to have to stick to our game plan and we’re going to have to play the football we know we’re capable of playing,” added Bond.
Both teams are unbeaten in their respective leagues and will look to carry on that momentum into this cup tie.
Montpellier’s last game in the League Cup was against Pittville United, who sit in eighth place in Generation Next’s league.
Pittville were dispatched 5-0 by the “new boys” Montpellier, and they will be looking for another giant killing on Saturday.
“Pittville are one of the better teams in Division Two, and we were able to compete in every way. However, with Generation Next, I’m expecting a younger, fitter, more energetic team that will give us more of a challenge in terms of legs and running.”

Bond believes that the team’s competitive edge will come from their physicality and their work ethic.
“We’re going to have to dominate every blade of grass we’re given.”
The game will be played at the Energy Check Training Ground, the training ground for Cheltenham Town.
“It will give extra motivation knowing that we get to play on such a good pitch, a League One standard training ground. It will help us play the football we know we’re capable of playing.”
Generation Next v Montpellier FC play on Saturday, 27 November at the Energy Check Training Ground.
