Great Britain’s women’s curling provided an immediate response after defeat earlier today, by thrashing Sweden 8-2 in their second round robin match.
Eve Muirhead, Vicky Wright, Jennifer Dodds and Hailey Duff were unlucky to lose 6-5 to Switzerland in the early hours of this morning, but responded well with a clinical win against the reigning Olympic champions.
Team GB were able to capitalize on Sweden’s mistakes to great effect, landing four unequalled stones in the fourth end alone.
Their attention turns now to a meeting with South Korea tomorrow (06:05 GMT).
Elsewhere, Dutch speed skater Irene Schouten won her second gold medal of the Games after adding the 5,000m title to her earlier win in the 3,000m.
Her time of 6:43.51 is an Olympic record and she becomes the fifth woman to win both the 3,000m and 5,000m golds at a single Winter Olympic Games.
The last woman to achieve that feat was Martina Sablikova in 2010, and the Czech athlete took bronze behind Canada’s Isabelle Weidemann.
Germany won the luge team relay event, beating Austria by 0.08 seconds and ensuring the country won every gold medal available from the luge events at the Games, matching their record in 2014.
In team relay, three separate sleds are sent down the luge track in turn, starting with one woman, followed by one man and ending with two men.

When double Olympic champion Johannes Ludwig finished his run, he left Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt a gap of 0.1 seconds to overcome, but a faultless run from the pair secured the clean sweep.
