ITALIAN OPEN: Johanna Konta reaches final 16

British Number 1, Johanna Konta won comfortably 6-0, 6-4 against Taiwanese Hsieh Su-Wei.

Konta will face the current French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in the third round of the Italian Open in Rome.

After a rocky season, seeded number 22, Konta is breaking through ahead of the summer season.

Both players have competed against each other before where last year Su-Wei won against Konta in the first round of Roland Garros last year.

Konta said, “It’s never a straightforward match against her, the first set was quite quick but I was fully prepared to play as long as needed. Overall, I’m happy with the way I was playing. I played the way I wanted to play.

I learn from each match I play against every opponent. Yes, she’s definitely unique, very talented and a crafty player. I think I had already improved a lot from when I played her at the French, to when I played her at Wimbledon.”

Edmund has had a storming tournament so far after winning 6-2 7-6 (7-3) against french player Lucas Pouille making it to the final 16 of the tournament.

Currently seeded in the world top 20 he faces Rome Masters champion, Alexander Zverev in the next round.

‘I came very quickly out of the blocks tonight’ said Edmund.

‘Zverev has got a great serve, great backhand and he’s very confident right now after a lot of straight set wins so I go out there without much to lose.”
