Slimbridge went into Saturday’s game against bottom of the league Lymington on a streak of seven games without a win.
However, Jack Holmes’ first-half strike was enough to see the Swans earn a significant victory at Thornhill Park, their first three points at home in the league this season.
Slimbridge assistant manager Tom Deakin described the win as ‘needed’.
“I think Saturday was what we needed, we needed that first home win, we needed a clean sheet and we just needed to make sure we got over the line.
The Swans have gone into half-time with a lead in their last three matches, but the win over Lymington was the first time they have been able to hold onto their advantage.
Deakin labelled his sides resilience as the difference between Saturday and previous weeks, “I think we were a lot more resilient, we made sure that we were a tight unit, we made sure that they couldn’t get to us. If Lymington would’ve scored, it had to be a good goal.”
It’s three points that see’s the Swans move into 17th in the Southern League Division One South table, and Deakin has shared his thoughts on the start of the season for Slimbridge.
“I would say it’s a stutter at the minute. That month of October, we had a couple of good performances in a change of system. But we’ve gone from conceding one goal a game to conceding near now three goals a game. In terms of that aspect, I’m disappointed.

“But in terms of how we’ve done on the whole I’m relatively pleased. It’s a good foundation for where we are. Position wise, yes, we have the number 17 next to our name, but we are also six points away from being in the play-off spot.”
The month of November see’s Slimbridge face another three sides at Thornhill Park and the Swans assistant manager believes it will be a ‘massive’ month.
“It is a massive month in terms of getting our season properly going and properly flowing through. I’m taking the mentality that it doesn’t matter who is out in front of us next week.
“It doesn’t matter that it’s Bideford. It doesn’t matter if it’s Frome, Westbury, Cinderford, Totton or Sholing, we’ve just got to go and play the 11 players on the field and give the best account of ourselves.”
Slimbridge host Bideford AFC at Thornhill Park next, before travelling to Frome Town the week after in what could prove to be a significant month in their league campaign.
