”I only have admiration for Wrexham and we have a challenge on our hands” – Forest Green Rovers boss Steve Cotterill ahead of home clash

Steve Cotterill chose to revel in the Wrexham story and says that he only has admiration for the Welsh side who they host on Tuesday night.

“I certainly haven’t got anything against Wrexham.”

“I have only admiration because they’ve come in and they’ve done really well”

“but we’ve got a challenge on our hands ahead of us and we’re looking forward to it. “

The away side are flying in League Two after winning the National League title last season, while Forest Green are languishing in the relegation drop zone despite winning two of their last three games.

The former Shrewsbury manager who took charge of Rovers last month says that they have prepared well despite playing on Saturday and having only one day on the grass ahead of Tuesday’s night potential sell out.

”We’ll be as well prepared as we can be with really having one day on the grass and that’s obviously very limited.”

“It’s been blowing a gale out there this morning, which has been horrendous,”

“But all the lads have worked hard this morning, so we’ll be looking forward to the game tomorrow night. ”

Forest Green come into the match up in decent form in the league. Both FGR and the Red Dragons have both picked up seven points from their last five fixtures. A result by either side could totally blow the race for promotion and the battle to survive wide open.

Last time around in League Two, Forest Green picked up all three points at home for the first time since October after they defeated Tranmere 1-0, while Wrexham lost by the same score-line when they played away to Gillingham.

Despite the best streak that the side currently sat in 23rd in L2 have been in all season, 58 year old Cotterill has stressed for time and patience as he aims to build them for the long term.

”It hasn’t been too healthy a time for the last, I suppose, 18 months, two years.

“We know that and it takes time to rebuild that, So, yeah, we’re just trying to do that bit by bit.”

And I know it’s an old adage, but taking every game as it comes, not looking too far ahead.”

Harking back to Wrexham, Cotterill believes that the side’s push through the leagues under famous actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney is not something to scoff at.

”It has been quite a story and I think what can happen is when you become a story, people quite often don’t like you  or there’s a jealousy factor or whatever like that.

“I’m not interested in that. Good luck to them.

“They’re doing whatever they want to do with their club and spending money as they see fit,

“But one thing’s for sure, I’m sure their supporters have enjoyed the last couple of years anyway”.
