“I cant promise anything but I’m confident I will play its about proving myself” Ismael Nshimirimana on early Varsity preparations

Ismael Nshimirimana is a third-year student studying music but alongside his passion for music he has found the heart for Volleyball, and he tells us he is hopeful of making the squad ahead of this years Varsity

The side lost last years Varsity header but ahead of this year they have noted their failures “Following the defeat last year we clocked on to a lot of mistakes we did mostly bad habits people forgetting what goes on the as the awareness isn’t there” but “each training session we are trying to do better than the last training session” so its seems to be heading in the right direction.

Each year teams chop and change due to one year leaving and a new year putting themselves forward “It’s a fresh team, from my own experience most of us were strangers to each other, I reckon once we have marinated, let it happen but for now we still need each other.”

One of the teams key players is Croatian Xander Howgate who also I current housemates with Ismael when asked if it helps or makes it harder playing with someone you are so close with outside the sport he replied with “ Well I find it a lot easier to find where I belong,  Xander’s  very experienced I look up to him in a way I always go to him for tips on hitting or serving but at the same time he comes to me as he observes a lot its not just a friend its feels like a teacher at times”

The year is fresh but Ismael has set himself goals already “ Firstly to make the team, also I want to achieve the standard of what the teams requires from me and the main goal is to obviously win Varsity”

As a third year you have to be a role model mainly for the freshers and maybe second years developing or people joining later on “I would say yeah Many of them depend on us cause all the  third years run the club like the committee, team leaders and club captains, it’s a huge responsibility cause they will be there in a few years there.”
