“I always want to win,” Bishop’s Cleeve manager Paul Collicutt ahead of Brimscombe and Thrupp

Paul Collicutt has admitted that his side won’t take this Saturday’s game lightly, despite already sealing the league title last weekend.

“It’s a local derby and several of the lads have played for Brimscombe so they will certainly be up for the game,” revealed Collicutt.

“We want to finish the season on a good note and we are hopefully looking for a good crowd on Saturday so we want to put a performance in,”

“It will be out last game in the Hellenic League hopefully for a long time.”

Cleeve sealed their promotion out of the Hellenic League Premier last week with an 11-2 win over Shrivenham.

Key to their season so far has been midfielder Samuel Blackie, who scored his first goal of the season against Worcester Raiders last weekend.

“Sam has certainly been a bit of a live wire this year and if I’m honest he’s been one of the best players this season,”

“Archie Haskin picked up a bad injury a few weeks into the season when he broke his ankle and Sam has stepped up to the mark when I’ve asked him to do something he wouldn’t normally have done, he’s played in the centre of midfield and he’s done exceptionally well.”

Several of the Cleeve squad will return to their former club in Brimscombe, with four current Cleeve players having formerly played for the Stroud-based team.

“We call them the Dursley four, we’ve got Ashley Caldwell, Samuel Blackie, Harrison Reeves, and then Jake Parrott,”

“They’re all lads who have turned out for Brimscombe over the years, they’ll want to be playing Saturday.”

The game has no meaning in the context of Cleeve’s season, however, they will be keen to get the result as they look forward to their title celebrations after the full time whistle.
