Cheltenham Civil Service Reserves seal a spot at Jonny-Rocks Stadium with a 1-0 win over Hanley Swan in Cup Final

Bishop’s Cleeve’s Kayte Lane hosted the Cheltenham League Senior Charities Cup semi-final as the top two Division One sides faced off.

Scott Edginton scored the only goal of the tie, when the ball fell to him in the box and he took a touch before firing the chance into the corner.

Tensions were high before the game. Civvy’s manager Daniel Midwinter calmed his matchday nerves with a kebab before the kick-off.

Civil Service Club president Rob Morrison discussed the game with ParkLifeSport.

“It was a bit of a battle. Both teams had chances, and Civil Service took one. On reflection, both teams probably left the pitch thinking that if they’d taken their chances the night could’ve been theirs.”

Morrison added, “On the balance of play, Civil Service deserved to edge it.”

The two teams took different approaches, with Civil Service trying to play a grounded game and Hanley Swan trying to play more balls over the top.

“I think the teams took a while to get used to the new pitch. The game was quite slow.”

The game was played on Bishop’s Cleeve’s new artificial pitch at Kayte Lane, which slowed the game down and changed the game.

“It is a lovely set-up and a lovely facility. It just takes a bit of getting used to.”

The occasion had the Hanley Swan supporters in full spirit through-out the match.

The team joining Civil Service in the final will be decided on Saturday, 6 April when AFC Kempsey face Montpellier FC.

“They would be tough games. Both sides have knocked out Division One teams.”

Midwinter is currently in a position to win six competitions.

Having already won the league, they are in a position to win the Senior and Junior Charities Cup and the County Cup, as well as the play-off semi-finals against the Division One South winners and a final with the u16 team he also manages.

The Final at Whaddon Road will be played on 27 April, against either AFC Kempsey or Montpellier FC.
