Hege Riise becomes England Women’s Interim Boss replacing Phil Neville

Hege Riise has been appointed as the new Interim Head Coach of the Lionesses replacing Phil Neville, who left yesterday for Inter Miami.

Riise won the Women’s World Cup, European Championships and Olympic Gold for Norway whilst she was a player and amassed a total of 188 caps for her country, a national record and was considered, “One of the best players of her generation“.

She has previously been the assistant of the USA women’s national team, then moved onto to coach Norwegian side LSK Kvinner where she became head coach in 2017 and helped to win six consecutive titles between 2014 and 2019, she also helped them to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League in the 2018-19 season.

The Norweigan is a strong candidate for manager of the Lionesses at the Olympics and currently doesn’t have an confirmed fixtures scheduled with England Women not having played since March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

She was nominated for FIFA best women’s’ coach of 2020 which future successor Sarina Wiegman won.
