Harry Roe Appointed Sutton Coldfield Town Women’s New Manager: “It’s the Right Time”

Sutton Coldfield Town Women have appointed former West Brom Women’s manager Harry Roe as their new head coach, with Roe expressing excitement as he looks forward to his time at the club.

“I was approached by James a few weeks ago and it’s a club that I always thought I could go out and finish business at,” said the manager.

“It’s a club that I feel like I owe a lot to in terms of starting my career. It funded me an opportunity and gave me a great opportunity at Tier 4 as a No 2.”

“It’s an opportunity I want to come back and have a go at myself.  I feel like I’ve gone away from the club. I’ve learned, I’ve developed, I’ve met some new people. I’ve done well where I was at previously. And now I thought it was the right time to come back.”

Roe is a young manager, but his time at West Brom proved valuable, especially as he guided the women’s team to promotion to the FA Women’s National League in the 2022/23 season – an experience that has shaped him for the challenges ahead.

“Obviously, I’m still young in terms of my age, but I’ve got a lot of experience in the game, a lot of experience at this level. I felt like it was a perfect opportunity. You know, the club’s had a tough year last year with, obviously, ongoings on and off the pitch. And I felt like it was a good time to go and get a real good project, a real good rebuild underway. And I’m excited to be a part of it.”

The club’s fans are eager for attacking football, and Roe has promised to deliver just that in the upcoming season.

“You’ll expect from me a lot of energy. You’ll expect from me a lot of passion, a lot of willingness to want to win. I want a team that works hard. I want a team that has that willingness to run through brick walls and that togetherness to defend leads.”

“I want us to be hard to beat. I don’t want teams to come here and expect to put 3, 4, 5 past us. That’s not a certain kind of team. That’s not a team that I want to be a part of. I want to be a team that’s hard to beat, a team that defends well, but then also a team that shows quality on the ball,” said the young coach.

“I want us to move the ball well. I want us to go and be attacking the right moments at the right times. I want us to dominate the ball where we can.”
