England’s Over 50s have a perfect record after two games in the Cricket World Cup.
After the success of the England Over 60s side in the Caribbean Cup, the younger side have started the tournament with comfortable wins over Namibia and United Arab Emirates.
In the second win over UAE, Gloucestershire’s Richard Trotman starred with a century opening the batting in England’s total of 216-9.
His 104 was England’s third century of the tournament in South Africa after twin hundreds for Steve Chapman and David Snellgrove against Namibia.
Trotman only made one run in that game before bouncing back impressively a day later.
Following in the steps of Over 60s player Edward Gordon-Lennox, he plays for Gloucestershire’s seniors’ sides and specifically the Over 50s team.
He combines these commitments with club appearances for Twyford House Cricket Club, who are based north of Bristol.
He hasn’t made the team for Friday’s game against India with England having restricted their opponents to 218-8.
Trotman will be hoping to force his way back into the XI for the final group stage games against Pakistan, South Africa and Wales ahead of the knockout stages if England were to qualify.
