Sutton Coldfield Town Women’s manager Steve Benyon has “confidence” going into his first game against Leafield Athletic when they meet on Sunday afternoon.
“I pass on again my sincere thanks to them trusting me the players from the first team to the development squad. I see that as one club to the staff as well it’s just been really, really positive but again I look forward to reaching, helping the girls reach their potential but most first, first and foremost driving Sutton up the league,” said the new manager.
The Royals face a good Leafield side who sit 2nd in the league and manager Benyon wants his squad to embrace the challenge: “I think we’ve spoken off the pitch in the past. I think obviously come Sunday my respect is always going to be there but first and foremost I’m looking and aiming to win the game and I feel I know a lot about them to hurt them, show them respect of course because they’re second in the league for a reason but my priority is Sutton Caulfield.
“I’ll prep the girls to compete for the whole game and I feel that we have got the tools to really hurt Leafield and then to push on for the rest of the season.”
Benyon is known for his attacking style of play and he wants his new team to play in an attacking manner.
“Goals win games but I want to have that clear structure both in and out of possession and something that will be already start to drip feed I would say into, into, into training these last few training sessions but yeah first and foremost it’s free flowing football but it’s to go and win games.
“So I would say like the old Manchester United score more goals in the opposition but no joking aside free flowing to give players an opportunity to be attractive on the eye to the fans of the club and to hopefully build something for many many years to come.”
