Gloucestershire Cricket: Andrew Tye confident he can be a success

Gloucestershire’s overseas signing, Andrew Tye made his ODI debut on Sunday after a successful season in the Big Bash League with Perth Scorchers.

He bowled ten overs conceding 43 runs without taking a wicket.

This is actually a very economical performance from the quick, but the fact that his normal tricks which work in the T20 arena didn’t seem to work against England in the first match.

This prompted former England star, Kevin Pieterson to question whether he could transfer his scintillating T20 form into the ODI arena.
In the Big Bash this season, Tye has taken 12 wicket in six matches for the Scorchers which led to his ODI call-up.

Despite Pieterson’s concerns, Tye is confident that he can be a success in ODIs for Australia.

He spoke to the press after the five wicket loss to England about Pieterson’s doubts.

He said: “That’s all part of the learning curve; figuring out how the best way for me to attack at this level is.”

Tye says that his focus for the One Day format is to know when to apply the weapons he possesses which can be affective.

He said: “It all depends how I feel at the time, what the game situation’s like, what I think we might need as a team to hey a batsman out of a rhythm.”

All bowlers are disappointed to go wicketless when they play, but Tye isn’t letting it affect him.

Tye said: “I’m not putting any pressure on myself to try and get wickets because if you do that they don’t generally come.”

Their spot’s up for grabs in the Australian ODI team, so Tye has to take his chance if he is to play in the second ODI on Friday. He has competition for his place in the side, with his Perth Scorchers team-mate, Jyhe Richardson breathing down his neck.
