Adventurer Jamie McDonald, is to run more than 200 marathons across the US dressed as a superhero to raise money for charity.
The fundraiser from Gloucester, will embark on a gruelling challenge; where he will run a marathon to complete the journey which. He’ll take in 15 states across the US.
Jamie says: “I do feel like there’s more of an expectation on my shoulders this time though, that of course I’ll complete this challenge, but being realistic, there’s a good chance I will fail.”
This is not Jamie’s first running challenge completing a 5,000 mile run across Canada three years ago. His efforts in Canada as well as in other events have raised over £500,000 for children’s charities.
He says: “I’ve had an itch to get out again for the last few years but was desperate to build something that could run alongside my adventures – and I massively underestimated the work that goes into something like building a charity.”
Jamie takes with him on every marathon his pram named ‘Caesar’. It holds his phone from which people are able to track his progress: “He comes everywhere with me. He’s like my ‘Wilson’ from the film Castaway. I have a love hate relationship with him, because he’s so big and heavy to push, but he’s got me this far, so I’d say he’s brought me luck so far.”
The money raised from the marathons’ will go towards the Superhero Foundation, co founded by Jamie, whose aim is to provide resources and fund treatment for people who are unable to receive it through the NHS and health care services.
Talking about the challenge Jamie says: “I’m absolutely terrified, but also hugely excited at the same time to get back out and do what I love most all over again, challenging myself and meeting amazing people along the way.”
