Cheltenham Beauty Week: expert urges people to “look after your scalp first”

Healthy hair is something everybody wants, but experts at Cheltenham Beauty Week say it all starts with looking after your scalp.

Visitors to the festival were able to see new technology which takes video images to show the condition of the scalp in microscopic detail.

The image shown shows how dry or damaged the scalp is, and can help hair specialists recommend specific treatments. Daisy who works for a leading haircare company said: “To get really good, strong, healthy hair, you need to look after your scalp first. This means, washing regularly as well as looking at your nutrition and lifestyle.”

Marks and Spencer hosted a demonstration with Philip Kingsley, an international hair brand, which looks at the health of hair; they showcased their special technology microscope that examines how healthy your scalp is internally and externally. They recommended the best products to try, along with their range of products.

“If you wash your face every day, why wouldn’t you wash your scalp.”

Doing your make up can take up a lot of time and effort and many see it as an artform, but it’s also science: “With Philip Kingsley, we bridge the gap between the trichology side and the health and the science of the scalp. But, we also look at it from a hairdressing perspective, we’re the middle ground.”

This international hair brand is known for their holistic approach to haircare, by focusing on the science behind keeping hair strong and healthy so it looks and feels good. They offer a consultation at their expert clinics based in London and New York – looking at how heritage and diet can impact your hair, and, the treatments needed for different hair types.

With the evolving cosmetic industry going green and becoming more ethical, the brand wants to promote how important this change through beauty is:

“We’re pushing to be more sustainable by looking at the future and where its going to take us. We want to make sure we’re looking after the planet.”

It’s the last day of Cheltenham’s Beauty Week tomorrow, full of Topshop and Body Shop experiences. Cheltenham have been celebrating all things beauty in its first ever beauty week, this week. Organised by The Cheltenham BID (Business Improvement District) they have been promoting local beauty, skin and haircare brands in Cheltenham.
