Gloucester Rugby: Matt Scott looking to life after rugby

Scottish international and Gloucester Rugby player, Matt Scott has been put in a position where he has been told his contract is not going to be extended at the club.

In his spare time now, he has been studying an MBA (Masters of Business Administration) at the University of Gloucestershire.

His aim is to start a career in housing to become a property advisor.

In his blog, Scott describes his thought process when deciding to ‘go back to school’ and study.

He said: “I found myself turning 27 in September of 2017 suddenly worrying about life after rugby.”

Scott found an interest in business and property investment and decided to focus on that.

“I am loving learning about business,” he said.

“I have also started working with a fantastic property mentor and coach, and have set myself some ambitious goals for 2018.”

He goes on to talk about how the Rugby Players Association help players after they leave rugby.

“The encouraging thing for rugby players in particular is that we have a fantastic body in the RPA that is striving to help players make the transition to life after rugby more seamless,” he said.

“They run entrepreneurship courses, work experience, trade courses (such as bricklaying, electrical work etc.) and business networking events so that players can try different things whilst they are playing.”
