Gloucester-Hartpury Women Get England Six Nations Call Up

Gloucester-Hartpury women have had four players called up into the 2018 England Six Nations squad. Sarah Bern, Bianca Blackburn, Ellie Kildunne and Kelly Smith have all earned a place in the 35 woman squad for the tournament which kicks off away to Italy on the 4th of February.

Sarah Bern

The converted back row forward who now applies her trade in the front row has made the transition with so much ease that it’s generated 15 caps and a reputation for being a tough scrummager and a worker around the field. Not bad for such a young player, with so much valued experience at a young age Bern is definitely a name to watch for the future.

Bianca Blackburn

The 23 year old scrum half has shown much promise throughout her rugby career having represented the GB University 7’s team at the world championships. This could prove to be invaluable in the Six Nations, especially in the tougher ties against the French and Irish.

Ellie Kildunne

The youngest member of the England squad at 18 years of age, Ellie Kildunne certainly doesn’t lack skill racking up several tries in her three caps, including one on her debut. Her youthfulness and no fear attitude is exactly the type of player that England are looking for and will hope that her traits spread throughout the team.

Kelly Smith

The uncapped back three player isn’t short on international experience at U20 level, leaving her in good stead for this years Six Nations. Being able to cover full back and wing gives her the advantage of more possible game time, which could be invaluable.
