The MET Office has issued a yellow weather warning as a freezing fog has fallen across the UK, disrupting travel. But there is currently no sign of snow on the horizon.
As part of its warning, the Met Office advises drivers to expect hazardous conditions and slower journeys. It could also mean delays to public transport and flight cancellations.
Forecaster Craig Snell explained that long winter nights, clear skies and light winds are to blame for the fog and that “it may linger on in a few spots, but towards lunchtime conditions should be much better.”
Temperatures dropped to -6C last night as eagle-eyed brits caught a glimpse of the Wolf Moon – the first full moon of the new year. And social media users took to Twitter this morning to share their chilly thoughts.
Looking towards the rest of January, forecasters are expecting foggy patches to stick around throughout the rest of the month with weather patterns turning more unsettled with rain.
No snow on the horizon yet, but with temperatures set to drop below freezing again tonight, drivers should expect icy roads and frosted windshields.
So, windscreen scrapers at the ready!
