Former Forest Green captain David Pipe admitted that he hopes Newport County reach Wembley again at the end of the season in the Sky Bet League Two play-off final.
The experienced 34 year-old full-back spent two years at the Green Devils between 2014 and 2016, making a total of 66 appearances and as the exiles welcome Mark Cooper side on the weekend, the Welshman admitted that he is looking forward to the rest of the season and believes they can reach the League Two play-off final come the end of the season.
He said: “We spoke about it from day one, without the clichés coming out, we know how much each game counts. We have got this big bunch of home games coming. If we approach it and I think as long as we equip ourselves as we have done, I think we will be in the mix.
“It has been a journey together, but at the end of the day the journey is still going, but as far as I am concerned it has only just began and we have got to get back to that stadium where we were the other night, in the play-off final.”

In the meeting earlier this season, the Exiles eased to a 4-0 win at the New Lawn as Pipe returned to his old stomping ground, and the Welshman confirmed that he has no animosity with his previous club, but his main focus is on Newport County and ensuring they get the three points on Saturday.
“You have got to be respectful of where you come from. I was club captain there for two-years and it was the highest moment at a club I had ever had achievement wise. I have got a lot of close people at the club and there is no animosity there. Obviously football moves on, I moved on, as far as I am concerned, we are there to take three points off them.”
“I knew a couple of the players there, the Background people, the chairman himself, who I had a good relationship with”
“I didn’t officially work under Cooper and I know him through playing against him over the past 10 years or so. I have got a few connections there, but without being disrespectful to anyone, my main concern is Newport and what we are aiming for and we are all very focussed to do so.”
