An unfortunate own goal by Karen Bardsley saw the Lionesses lose the SheBelieves final 1-0 against the United States in Orlando.
This was their first tournament under Phil Neville’s management in preparation for the World Cup next summer in France.
The girls had an impressive run of games in the tournament winning 4-1 against France, whilst drawing in a tough-battled match against Germany 2-2.
The 41-year-old told BBC Sport: “Sometimes you’ve got to see the opposition lift a trophy because it sticks with you, and the next time we come to SheBelieves or another competition, you hope they remember this pain.
“I think we’re where we want to be. We’re challenging the best teams in the world and people are starting to talk about England.”
In regards about Bardsley: “There’s nothing you can say…these things happen. You have runs of games where luck goes against you but I just want her to continue to play at the standards she’s set at this tournament and if she does that she’ll have no problems.”
The Lionesses have won their first three qualifying matches to secure their place in the World Cup finals.
They will next be playing qualifying group one leaders, Wales in April.
