With Forest Green Rovers teenage sensation Jake Young missing out on Tuesday night’s clash with Newport after twisting his ankle in a pothole, here are five of the weirdest and most unique injuries that have occurred in the world of football.

Tevez was visiting his half-brother, who is serving 16 years for armed robbery at a maximum security facility in Cordoba.

34 years old at the time, the Argentinian was ruled out for a month and disappointed club bosses massively with three goals in just five matches before the injury layoff.

EVER BANEGA

Ex Sevilla, Inter Milan and Valencia midfielder Ever Banega was involved in a petrol station accident during his time in Spain, which saw the Argentinian international break both the tibia and fibula in his left leg.

Banega was absent for around six months after the car incident and required major surgery on the injury.

Spanish media reported that the 23-year-old at the time had failed to put his car handbrake on at a petrol station and the vehicle moved with his leg caught between the wheel and the curb.

ADAM CHAPMAN

Back in 2012 Adam Chapman was playing for Oxford United and while shaking his baby’s milk, the midfielder spilled boiling milk onto his chest, scalding his nipple.

The 22-year-old was forced to go to hospital after burning himself in what was a funny but painful incident.

Despite the unusual injury, Chapman managed to take his place in the team the next day as Chris Wilder’s Oxford beat Wycombe 3-1.

MARCO ASENSIO

Real Madrid man Marco Asensio was once ruled out of a Champions League clash with Apoel Nicosia after picking up a infected spot while shaving his legs.

At the time, the Spanish international was experiencing a flying start to the season with four goals in six games and his unique absence provoked some interesting reactions on social media.

PAULO DIOGO

When playing for Swiss Super League team Servette FC, Paulo Diogo assisted Jean Beausejour in the 87th minute and jumped up onto the metal perimeter fence to celebrate the goal with the fans.

Unnoticed by Diogo, his wedding ring was caught in the metal fence and as he jumped off, part of his finger tore off along with the ring.

To rub salt in the wounds, Florian Etter the match referee then booked Diogo for excessive time-wasting but in reality the stewards were busy searching for the severed finger.
