Bath and Rugby expert Sam Jess believes that they will have too much for Saracens as they aim to win their second consecutive match of the 2023/24 season.
Saracens are heavily hamstrung by their loss of key players to the Rugby World Cup. With England progressing to the Semi finals of the competition Sarries remain without Maro Itoje, Owen Farrell and Billy Vunipola.
Their losses were heavily felt after they went down to a comprehensive 65-10 loss to Exeter.
Jess believes that ‘their experienced side can really go on and win the attack’
After four wins out of six in the Premiership Cup pre season fixtures optimism was high in the Bath camp.
This was further raised by their 36-24 victory against Newcastle on the opening day.
Ben Spencer impressed in that fixture after scoring a hat trick of tries and new transfer Fin Russell impressing off the bench.
With captain Spencer and Russell in from the start Baths fan Jess believes that they can overpower the rivals in star and crescent.
‘I think Bath can get the victory with Ben Spencer and Fin Russell starting the attack should look much better than it did last season or even better rather. Johann Van Graan has brought in a bomb squad with three of our first choice front runners on the bench to have added impact.’
On the other hand in their last ten visits to the Stonex Stadium Bath have failed to achieve a victory even once.
They went close last season but a dropped ball in a lineout cost them dear. Despite this and the ‘curse’ of the 4G pitches he believes Van Graan can do a job to turn those fortunes in a row and compound Saracens poor form and their lack of star turns.
‘Van Graan has made Bath a much tougher side to beat since he came in last season and I think they will get over the line with pure power in attack.’
A win would suggest the Van Graan revolution is on and they can place by the end of the season much higher than the 8th they finished and prove that they can compete by defeating the previous season’s champions.
