“Every time I hit him it felt like I was punching a brick!” – Shabir Haidary reflects on his hard fought victory at Swindon MECA’s Fight Town

Shabir “The Afghan Warrior” Haidary impressed once more with a well earned 60-54 points victory against Kent’s Tatenda Mangombe.

“I loved every moment of it, I could tell the crowd did as well and I live for knowing that I can entertain the fans whilst I fight.

“Before mine, most of the fights were a little boring however as soon as I came out everyone was happy and loved me being out there doing what I do best.”

Reflecting on the support received by the 1,300 fans in attendance Haidary stated:

“Performing for the crowd is the most important part of my job because, at the end of the day, they’re the guys and girls who are paying to come and watch us fight.”

The Afghan Warrior seemed intent on finding the stoppage early and found success in catching his opponent with some brutal bodywork that the Chatham based fighter did well to cope with.

The Super Featherweight was quick to praise and acknowledge the fortitude and grit of his opponent.

“Normally it takes someone a couple seconds to recover after taking a clean shot, but he impressed me with how well he managed to recoup and keep coming at me.

When asked if there was anything that had surprised him about the fight he said:

The Afghan Warrior soon after learning of his win on points.

“His head definitely shocked me, since the fight my hands have been completely swollen and every time I hit him it felt like I was punching a brick!

“But seriously I was really impressed with how well he recovered considering some of the punishment I handed out to him.”

The win takes Haidary’s professional record to 3-0 with a return to the ring scheduled for February at the latest.
