University Of Gloucestershire to stage ‘gold standard’ fitness testing for professional boxer Shabir Haidary following his most recent victory

Gloucester’s Shabir Haidary is set to undergo state of the art fitness testing to aid his recovery and future development following his most recent victory.

Speaking to his Strength and Conditioning coach and lecturer before the testing, Ed Baker listed the benefits of the programme which the Super Featherweight is set to complete tomorrow.

“It’s brilliant for the university to be able to test high level equipment and techniques with a high performance athlete such as Shabir.

“He will undertake a series of tests to test his power output, anaerobic capabilities and a series of other metrics by using tests such as CMJ, IMTP, and the Wingate Test.”

The countermovement jump (CMJ) is primarily used to measure an athlete’s explosive lower-body power and the isometric mid-thigh pull test is an effective way to test maximal strength in youth and adult athletes.

The Wingate Test however is used to measure an individual’s anaerobic capacity and anaerobic power outputs.

“His level of fitness is unbelievable and having had a fantastic camp with him before Saturday’s fight, it’s the fittest he’s been and it’s the perfect time for him to gauge his athletic potential.”

Training out of the Fight Factory in Gloucester, the Afghani born fighter has impressed fans so far boasting a record of 3-0 after an impressive victory 60-54 points victory on Saturday.

As a third year strength and conditioning student himself, Haidary is feeling excited ahead of tomorrow’s day of testing despite sustaining a minor hand injury following his bout.

“I’m really looking forward to them, it will be great to see where I’m at fitness wise in a lab setting with all of the equipment available.

“I noticed that my hand was super swollen as soon as the fight ended on Saturday night but hopefully it will be alright tomorrow during the tests.”

The testing will allow the University of Gloucestershire to practice their delivery of these tests in preparation for launching a commercial service to other fighters early in 2023.

This is in hope of being able to expand and develop their research and testing capability to further benefit those who are lucky enough to utilise the facilities.

The Afghan Warrior as Haidary is known, is excited at the opportunity to implement the results into his training.

“I went into this last fight a couple kilos heavier than I normally do and it made me feel a little sluggish but next time we’ll have that nailed so it won’t be a problem.

“These tests will help me focus on what I need to work on to maximise my performance, it’s so exciting.”

Only time will tell how far Haidary can go, however with the help of his trainers and his unquestionable work ethic the sky is truly the limit.
