Curtis Fleming not worried about losing Bristol City wonderkid Alex Scott in the summer

Bristol City assistant manager Curtis Fleming says the prospect of losing Alex Scott isn’t “even in the back of the minds” of those at the club.

Scott has become a regular for the first team after breaking through at the beginning of the season, and has since made 27 appearances for the Robins.

The 18-year-old’s undeniable talent makes him a prized asset for the club, but Fleming is insistent that he will remain a Bristol City player for the foreseeable future.

“Where’s he going to go? He’s still a young guy learning his trade so bids might come in but he’s not going to play,” Fleming spoke at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Robins’ trip to Nottingham Forest.

“That’s the nature of business. I’m not saying there’s a lack of ability but he’ll be going into a different environment with higher expectations.

“The reality of football is that if someone comes in and says I’ll give you £100m for him, we don’t go ‘well, alright then’ but if someone comes in and says I’ll give you £400,000 for him, you go ‘are you winding me up?’

“Nothing’s going to happen here!”

Fleming was full of praise for the attitude of Scott, who’s been asked to play a number of positions for the first team.

“It’s great isn’t it that he’s grasped his chance,” Fleming continued.

“The best thing for me is that he’ll play everywhere.

“He’s not having a moan or saying this or that, he’s just saying ‘yes Gaffer, thanks for having the belief in me’.

“Luckily for him, he’s an intelligent and good footballer and a good boy as well.”

Scott will play a part in Saturday’s visit to the City Ground, as the Robins look to bounce back from defeat in midweek against Coventry City.
