The number of positive coronavirus cases has decreased by an estimated 57% in two weeks in the UK, despite hospitals still being busy.
Whilst positive cases have decreased over two weeks, hospitals in Gloucestershire are still struggling to care for covid patients.
The current positive cases are estimated at around three thousand, compared to the last week of October, which saw cases reach the highest amount all year, with positive cases estimated at six thousand two hundred.
On the latest press release on the NHS Gloucestershire, Chief Executive Deborah Lee has said:
“Although our alert level is less critical today, NHS teams across Gloucestershire continue to experience significant pressures during a highly challenging period, and we expect this to continue over the next few weeks.”

According to the NHS website, it is estimated that 85% of Gloucestershire have received the first vaccine, and 79% have had the second dose.
Due to the increased stress, there are 90,000 vacancies in the NHS across the UK, despite staff members in their 60s putting off retirement to help during the pandemic.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid has said that more than 93% of NHS frontline staff have had their first dose, and 90% are fully vaccinated across the UK and plans to make it obligatory for all NHS staff to be fully vaccinated. NHS staff may be exempt from having the vaccine if they have medical reasons.
Waiting times at the Gloucestershire hospital can sometimes be up to around five to six hours long according their website but the Press Office told Park Life that staff are working as efficiently as possible.
“We highly recommend getting both the vaccines”
Statistics show that fully vaccinated individuals can still carry the virus and transmit it to others, but it is less likely than those who haven’t been vaccinated.
What is the likelihood of another lockdown? NHS Gloucestershire has told Park Life that it is “hard to tell – if we do go into another lockdown, we do recommend that you follow government guidelines.”
