Cheltenham’s Lido joins the ultimate swimming challenge

Sandford Parks Lido in Cheltenham is set to take part in Marathon Swims.

This is the ultimate swimming challenge where swimmers can take part in a 10k, 5k or 1k swimming marathon.

Cheltenham’s lido will be the first Marathon Swims event outside of London. The founder of Marathon Swims, Diccon Loy, said, “Sandford Parks is one of only 11 10-lane, 50 meter pools is the UK, so naturally it was a great venue for our event, given the format of Marathon Swims. The team there are also very experienced at managing events, so it was an easy decision to make”.

It’s all in aid of Level Water, which is the official charity partner of Marathon Swims. Its aim is to raise money and awareness whilst increasing the number of disabled children learning to swim in the UK.

In a press release statement Loy said,

“We have been delighted at the response and interest in Marathon Swims. To engage such great

partners and to sell out in our first two years proved to us that swimming as a sport has great

potential for growth and development. We set out to create an experience and challenge like no

other in the pool. We wanted to deliver the same sense of occasion and challenge as the London

Marathon delivers for runners. We’re excited about where we can take this innovative swimming

concept.”

The event will take place on July 27th this summer in the 10-lane 50 meter pool, which is based in the heart of Cheltenham. You can register here.
