Cheltenham Town host League Two rivals Notts County in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Monday evening.
The Robins are looking to continue their unbeaten league run under new manager Steve Cotterill, whilst Notts County will be looking to bounce back from their FA cup defeat to Brackley Town last Saturday evening.
The Magpies lost on penalties to the Non-league side in one of the many FA Cup upsets last weekend.
Cotterill’s side were one of the sides to pull of an upset, beating League One high flyers Bradford City 1-0 at the EV Charger Points Stadium.
However, it’s fair to say the side’s focus will be mainly on the league, the squad needing to climb League Two after a horrendous start to life in their second season in the fourth tier.
After parting ways with former manager Michael Flynn, Cheltenham have lost one of seven games since, only suffering defeat to Bristol Rovers in the Vertu Trophy, and only being held to a draw against Gillingham away from home.
This has seen them lift off the bottom of the table, and into 20th place before the weekend’s fixtures.
The away side, Notts County, were managed by Cotterill in 2010, moving to Meadow Lane after spells at both Stoke City and Burnley.
Martin Paterson’s side currently sit in the play-offs, winning three of their last five games in League Two.
Their aforementioned shock defeat last weekend was followed a 2-0 defeat Manchester United Under-21’s in the Vertu Trophy midweek.
The defeat saw them knocked out of the competition, likewise, their opponents, Cheltenham, have also been knocked out of the competition despite the win on penalties against Tottenham Hotspur Under-21’s in their final group game.
Both sides are in crucial search of three points for opposite reasons, the hosts needing to push further up the table to distance themselves from the dreaded drop zone, with other sides such as Newport County and Shrewsbury Town also picking up important points in recent weeks.
At the time of writing, the promotion race in League Two is already hotting up, County just two points off top of the table Walsall, with even 7th-placed Gillingham able to rocket up into the automatic promotion spots with a win depending on other results from around the grounds.
One of the plus sides of playing on a Monday is that the teams will know what’s at stake after the weekend’s results.
The match is available to be watched on Sky Sports, and kicks-off at 8pm on Monday evening.
