Bristol City manager Michael Skubala says there are “some really good positives” despite “difficult afternoon” as they lost 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers.
The Robins played well in the first half but conceded a screamer from Dapo Afolayan in the 38th minute.
City continued to dominate in the second half but a stellar performance from Balazs Toth meant the Blue and Whites left Ashton Gate with all three points.
Skubala was left frustrated, expressing “We had lots of chances, we had lots of box entries, and we shouldn’t be coming away losing that game in my opinion.
“It’s always a difficult afternoon when you’re one nil down, trying to chase the game, especially in this league.
“Goals change games and that goal changed the game.
“We were completely in control. We had momentum and we had chances.”
Speaking on summer signing Dom Ballard, who has three goals so far this season, Skubala said: “I thought he had a good game where he looked lively.
“We still have to remember that he’s learning, he’s still learning about the speed and physicality of this level.”
“He would be frustrated that he’s not scored. He wants to score every time he’s on the ball, but for him, it wasn’t meant to be.
“But there were other chances from other players where we should have scored.”
“I’m pleased with the amount of chances we’ve created, because we keep challenging the group with creating more chances.
“I don’t think we did that well enough against Charlton.”
Skubala was proud of his side’s efforts and ability to create chances but spoke at the importance of keeping goals out. He said “In some games we create more,
“But we also have to keep the back door locked all the time.
“And I think one moment really hurt us and that’s the level and learning for some of the lads, it doesn’t matter how much we create.
“We have to get together and be solid in that moment and it feels like we’re being punished in some moments that we don’t deserve.
“But we have to work hard on the training pitch to solve that.”
“It’s about what you do in both boxes, and the reality is we created enough but we didn’t lock the back door up enough in one moment and this league hurts you when it’s like that.”
“We’re frustrated, we’re angry, certainly the players, because they know it’s hard to take because you want to win the games you should win.”
“The result hurts that’s for sure, but there’s some really good positives to take out of that performance.”
Gibson Yah started his third game since signing from FC Volendam in the summer.
Skubala shared his thoughts on the player: “I thought he played well tonight.
“He’s still young, coming from a different league, but physically he’s an absolute monster of an athlete.”
Bristol City face Sheffield United on Saturday at Ashton Gate where they will look to claim their first win in October.
