Preview | City look to reach the FA Cup first round proper for the first time since 2012

Gloucester City are back on the road again as they travel to Barrow on Saturday for the fourth round of the FA Cup qualifying.

On Wednesday evening, Gloucester’s scheduled Southern League Premier South fixture against Taunton Town got postponed due to a major traffic incident which led to Taunton Town fans, players and staff being unable to get to The KMM Energy Stadium in time for the game to go ahead.

Instead, the Tigers had an open training session which fans were welcome to stay and watch as they prepared for Saturday.

Recent results for the away side in the FA Cup:

FA Cup – First qualifying round: Gloucester City 1-1 Mangotsfield Utd

FA Cup – First qualifying round second leg: Mangotsfield Utd 0-4 Gloucester City

FA Cup – Second qualifying round: AFC Totton 0-2 Gloucester City

FA Cup – Third qualifying round: Mulbarton Wanderers 1-2 Gloucester City

In 2012-13, the club reached the FA Cup first round proper for the first time in 23 years when they drew football League One team Leyton Orient at home. They eventually lost 2-0 due to two late goals. The club then repeated this success the following season, drawing football League Two side Fleetwood Town at home and they also were defeated 2-0.

Gloucester City forward Ethan Dunbar previewed the trip to Barrow, and he stated: “Any FA Cup runs are special. I’ve been involved in a few and to do that here would be really special”.

“Hopefully we can get quite a lot of fans at Barrow because we want to make an upset. We aren’t just going to attend, we are going there to win”, said Gloucester’s number 16.

The last time Gloucester City faced Saturday’s opponents was Saturday, 13 December 2014. Goals from Joe Parker and Charlie Griffin saw Gloucester take all 3 points.
