Great Britain are still struggling to get success at this years Winter Olympics and the chance to secure a single medal is quickly fading.
The men’s and women’s GB Curling team’s were both struck with unfortunate losses. Following their success of beating Sweden in their last match the women’s team came up short against South Korea 9-7. The squad of four , Eve Muirhead, Hailey Duff, Jen Dodds and Vicky Wright, were leading by one but then four late points from the Koreans stole the game from them.
The men’s team also lost there most recent match 9-7 to the USA who are the reigning champions. They are currently out performing Norway 5-1.
History over on the Halfpipe stage as Japanese snowboarder Ayumu Hirano secured gold in his final after performing three 1440’s in a breath-taking final run.
Three time Gold Medallist Shaun White couldn’t secure a fourth in his fifth and final Olympics. The American finished in fourth place…an unfortunate end to an outstanding career. James Scotty and Jan Scherrer won the Silver and Bronze medals.
Carrying on with the sucess and Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami has managed to carry on her legacy as a the women to beat when it comes to Super-G Skiing. She secured a her second career gold after producing a run of 1:13.51.
Away from the actual competition side of the Olympics and Russia are back in the lime-light for all the wrong reasons. Less than a day after Iranian athlete Hossein Saveh Shemshaki tested positive for steroids, the first athlete ever at the Winter Olympics, it has come to light that Russia’s 15 year old figure skater Kamila Valieva failed a drug test back December 2021. Considering she’s only 15 and has just helped her skating team win gold just yesterday it is very sad that this has occurred.
Circling back to the winners lounge and the Netherlands Suzanne Schulting handled the hot pursuit of Korea’s Min-Jeong Choi in an intense race which saw her defend her women’s short track 1,000m title and secure that Gold medal.
