University of Gloucestershire Darts celebrate record-breaking season with awards night

After their most successful season in their entire history, the University of Gloucestershire’s darts team crowned off their season with an awards night, and there was plenty to celebrate about.

The A’s enjoyed a simply outstanding season, winning the league with 19 wins and one loss, clinching the title versus Loughborough on the final day of the season, and in doing so qualified for Nationals.

Despite coming up short in their first ever Varsity contest earlier this year, the squad have plenty to be proud of, and represented the university in the best way possible.

The first award was for the B team player of the year, which was won by Carl Springer who managed to even break into the A team for the title-deciding game versus Loughborough.

“I felt honoured, it was a good first season for the B team and I’m glad Ethan (B team captain) appreciated my performances throughout the year and chose me for the award.”

The A team award was given to Jack Beard who saw vast improvement in his game as the season progressed, going from not even making the B’s to being one of the first names on the team sheet for the A’s.

Players’ player of the year went to the deserving President of the society Billy Maple. Despite balancing cricket and hockey alongside darts, Maple was able to focus on leading the team to a first league win.

The most important award of the whole evening was the Patrick Loveard (P Dog) award. P Dog founded the society and is the reason the team and society as a whole are where they are today.

This is the first time this award has been given out, and it will continue to be given out for years to come to those who prioritise the society over themselves and put others first. This award was of course given to Vice President James Pryer, who was vital in gaining UOG their first ever varsity match against Worcester.
