Mescalito’s Softball Player, Rebekah Kay On The Opportunity Of Playing In Europe

The start of the softball season is underway after the Heavy Hitters tournament in Czechia took place on the 3rd and 4th of May.

Heavy Hitters International Fundraising Softball Tournament is an annual event in Prague which is organized by the Prague Peak Education Fund (PPEF)

The coed slowpitch tournament has been a staple of the city’s sporting calendar for over three decades.

The tournament helps fund Thomayer University Hospital in Prague, where children who are in the hospital long-term can continue their education regardless of their medical complications.

Rebekah Kay, Mescalito’s player, discussed the prospect of playing for the tournament:

“The format of the Heavy Hitters Tournament is different to a normal softball tournament as usually you must play a team of five women and five men but in this one you only must play two women.

“My team, Mescalito’s was in the top division, and we decided to stick to the original format of five women and five men however, it meant every team we were faced against were using eight men and two women.

The London based team previously won the tournament in 2024 and reached the final this year.

“We made it to the final but unfortunately, we lost right in the last inning by one run but it was still such a big achievement for us.

“We are so proud that we play an equal team and show that playing women on your team are just as valuable as the men.

“Even though we lost, it made it even better making it into the final as we had everyone supporting us because that is what we represent.”
