“Proud as an Instructor” – Gloucestershire LudoSport Coach watches students shine at regional competition

LudoSport head coach Dave watched his students compete in a regional competition in late April, where the winner earned a spot at the national championship.

Dave was proud of his students, having watched them grow from beginners to competitors facing tough opposition in high-level tournaments.

“Even though the guys aren’t my students anymore, they were my students last year and seeing how they’ve evolved, how they’ve come forward and basically learned and improved, is amazing to be honest,” said the coach.

“We’ve seen great improvements, even with our new students. Sky did really well today. She’s only been training since September. A Fantastic result for her to end up with third place in the way she did and getting the Curie Award, so I’m really proud as an instructor.”

LudoSport has grown in popularity over the past few years, but Dave believes more still needs to be done to raise awareness of the emerging sport.

“We need to get over that side of things in terms of our reputation and we also need to get a bigger word out there. The number of people I still meet who go, I had no idea such a thing existed, I want to give that a try. You know, we need to get more into the public consciousness.”

Dave encourages anyone interested in feeling like a Star Wars Jedi to come along and try a taster session.

“Well, we try and promote it a bit more online, giving people more options. We try and give them more options of what nights we can do it, so we’re trying to open the second night. We do trial sessions, for example, where we try and give them a taste for what the sport is like and we try and price them at a reasonably low price.

“And, you know, that also goes for what the cost is to even get into the sport. I think the most expensive part of the sport is really just getting the uniform, but the monthly subs for us, it’s less than a gym membership and to be honest, it’s a lot more fun.”
